A Masked Ball — Verdi

The Teatro Nacional de São Carlos production presents *Un ballo in maschera*, an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi, with a libretto by Antonio Somma. Inspired by the assassination of King Gustav III of Sweden, the work became one of the best-known in the operatic repertoire, although it is not historically accurate. It premiered at the Teatro Apollo in Rome on 17 February 1859, and combines political intrigue, love, and tragedy in one of Verdi’s most celebrated titles.
