The Municipal Library of Coimbra joins the commemorations of the centenary of Camilo Pessanha's death with two initiatives that evoke the life and work of one of the greatest Portuguese poets. On 16 July, Casa Municipal da Cultura will inaugurate the exhibition "Imagens de Coimbra na época de Camilo Pessanha (1867-1926)", at 6:00 p.m.,.

The exhibition "Imagens de Coimbra na época de Camilo Pessanha (1867-1926)", which will be on display at the Pinho Dinis Gallery of Casa Municipal da Cultura from 16 July to 28 September, is part of the commemorative programme for the centenary of the poet's death. The initiative is organised by the Municipal Library of Coimbra, in collaboration with the Centro de Literatura Portuguesa and the Grupo de Arqueologia e Arte do Centro, the entities promoting the commemorations, to which the municipality and the University of Coimbra have joined.

Curated by Alexandre Ramires, the show, with free admission, brings together dozens of photographs from the late 19th century and the early 20th century, corresponding to the period in which Camilo Pessanha lived. The images portray spaces, settings and figures from the city of Coimbra that marked the poet's daily life, offering a visual journey into the urban, social and cultural context of the time.

At the same time, the lobby of Casa Municipal da Cultura is hosting a bibliographic display, also with free admission, dedicated to Camilo Pessanha, composed of items from the collection held by the Municipal Library of Coimbra. Born in Coimbra, where he was born on 7 September 1867, Camilo Pessanha would die in Macau on 1 March 1926.
