about the event
The musical *Come from Away* is based on events that took place in the town of Gander, in Newfoundland, Canada, during the week following the September 11, 2001 attacks. During this period, with US airspace closed, 38 planes carrying nearly 7,000 passengers were diverted to Gander. The town's residents welcomed these people, accommodating, feeding and supporting them until they could continue their journey.
