El musical *Come from Away* se basa en los acontecimientos ocurridos en la ciudad de Gander, en Terranova, Canadá, durante la semana que siguió a los atentados del 11 de septiembre de 2001. Durante este período, con el espacio aéreo de EE. UU. cerrado, 38 aviones con casi 7.000 pasajeros fueron desviados a Gander. Los residentes de la localidad acogieron a estas personas, alojándolas, alimentándolas y apoyándolas hasta que pudieron continuar su viaje.
