about the event
The Guided Tours at Batalha propose a journey through the building’s history, its spaces, and its architecture. Over the course of about an hour, the visit passes through different phases of Batalha’s life, from the implementation of the High-Life cinema by Neves & Pascaud to the contemporary redevelopment project signed by Alexandre Alves Costa and Sérgio Fernandez. The programme includes references to the construction of the modernist building by Artur Andrade in 1947, to the decorative elements, and to the censorship of Júlio Pomar’s murals. Along the way, visitors are also shown spaces that are usually closed to the public, such as the rooftop with views over Praça da Batalha and the projection booths. The visits are led by the Batalha team, with occasional special guests, and take place in Portuguese and in Portuguese Sign Language by prior booking.
