Synopsis
“Who am I?” is an artistic creation project, with a social cohesion component, designed for the population of the city of Porto, aged over 65. Created in 2018, following the City of Porto’s accession to the World Network of Age-Friendly Cities, and integrated into the Action Plan – Porto Age-Friendly City. The project “Who am I?”, developed in partnership with Teatro de Marionetas do Porto, was born from a strong motivation to work with the community, promoting artistic awareness and cultural involvement through participatory practices. In each new edition and depending on each group of participants, we create a show in a shared way, in search of the beauty that exists in each person, in a celebration of life! The 8th edition of “Who am I?” is carried out in collaboration with the Ramalde Parish Council, through the partnership with the Intergenerational University of Ramalde (UNIR). — Isabel Barros

Authors' biography text
Teatro de Marionetas do Porto was founded in September 1988, a symbolic date that coincides with the company’s presentation at the World Festival of Puppetry Theatres, in Charleville-Mézières. The company’s theatrical practice reveals a non-conventional view of the puppet, a concept that is continuously updated, and an understanding of puppet theatre as a poetic and evocative imagery-based language of contemporaneity. It seeks to find new ways of conceiving puppets, at the limit kinetic objects, and new possibilities for exploring the grammar of this theatrical language in terms of performance and its cross-disciplinary relationship with other areas of expression such as dance, visual arts, music and image. In 2013, the year of its 25th anniversary, Teatro de Marionetas do Porto fulfilled the great dream of its founder João Paulo Seara Cardoso (1956-2010): the opening of the Porto Puppet Museum.
