OML Season 2026/2027 - TEATRO TIVOLI BBVA Music OML Season 2026/2027 14 September to 14 July The partnership between Lisbon's cultural institutions is renewed for another year, marking the third consecutive year of a continuous and fruitful collaboration. This renewal reflects the shared commitment to promoting culture and to investing in the national and international orchestral repertoire, performed by the acclaimed musicians of the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra and distinguished soloists. 2026/2027 PROGRAMME Under the direction of Pedro Neves, the 26/27 Season of the Metropolitana opens on 14 September at Teatro Tivoli BBVA with the concert “Italiana de Mendelssohn”, which also features works by Cherubini and Joly Braga Santos, in a programme inspired by the landscapes and culture of southern Europe. Mendelssohn's famous Italian Symphony evokes his journey through Italy, while Cherubini and Braga Santos pay tribute, each in their own way, to identity and landscapes, in Braga Santos's case to Portuguese landscapes. On 19 October, the Metropolitana Participatory Choir, the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra and a cast of soloists, under the direction of Pedro Neves and Filipa Palhares, perform Beethoven's monumental Ninth, marking 40 years of Portugal in the European Union at Teatro Tivoli BBVA. The programme also includes A Canção da Urze, by Eurico Carrapatoso, and the world premiere of Três Poemas Portugueses, by Alexêi Tolpygo, inspired by texts by Florbela Espanca, Álvaro de Campos and Mário de Sá-Carneiro. This is followed, on 9 November, by the concert “Schubert's Fifth”, in which the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra is conducted by Krišš Russman. The programme bridges the classical and the contemporary, bringing together Mozart's *Exsultate, Jubilate*, performed by soprano Ana Rosa, winner of the 13th Rotarian Portuguese Foundation Lyrical Singing Competition, the premiere of a new work by Krišš Russman and Schubert's «delicate» *Symphony No. 5* at Teatro Tivoli BBVA. In the Christmas season, on 3 December, the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra takes to the stage of Teatro Tivoli BBVA for the concert “Mozart Concertante”, under the direction of Luís Carvalho. The programme brings together two Mozart concertos, performed by the winners of the Soloist Prize at the 2025 Júlio Cardona International Music Competition, Jieun Son (violin) and Madalena Lopes (flute), as well as the premiere of a new work by Luís Carvalho, in a meeting between classical tradition and contemporary creation. It is on 15 February 2027 that the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra returns to Teatro Tivoli BBVA, under the direction of Andrés Salado, for the concert “Mendelssohn's Scottish”. The programme brings together the epic Symphony No. 3 – Scottish and the Flute Concerto by Frederico de Freitas, originally premiered by the National Broadcasting Orchestra in 1956, now performed by Nuno Inácio, OML's principal flute. A day after the start of spring, on 22 March, the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra presents “The Firebird” at Teatro Tivoli BBVA, under the direction of Pedro Neves. Stravinsky's iconic suite, which revolutionised 20th-century music with its rhythmic force and supernatural universe, serves as the starting point for a programme completed by the irreverence of Armando Mota and the world premiere of the Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra by António Victorino d’Almeida, performed by Jorge Camacho, a composer whose career was also marked by conducting the former National Broadcasting Orchestra. On the day marking the Carnation Revolution, on 25 April, the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra presents “Beethoven: AV Revolution” at Teatro Tivoli BBVA, an immersive audiovisual experience directed by Pedro Neves, in collaboration with the duo Boris Chimp 504. Drawing on Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, one of the most emblematic works in music history, this show offers a contemporary reading that combines sound, image and technology to reflect on the idea of transformation and change. Inspired by the revolutionary spirit of 25 April, this creation invites the audience to rediscover an timeless classic through a multisensory experience. Nature remains in the spotlight on 2 May, at Teatro Tivoli BBVA, with the concert “Zoo Symphonies”. Under the direction of Sylvain Gasançon, the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra brings together Haydn's famous symphonies The Bear and The Hen, and Christian Lindberg's Blackbear in Motion concerto, with Ercole de Conca as soloist, in a programme that celebrates the presence of the animal world in music. As is now tradition, the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra marks its anniversary with the Metropolitana Anniversary Concert, taking place on 7 June at Teatro Tivoli BBVA. Under the direction of Pedro Neves, the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra presents a programme dedicated to Richard Wagner's most emblematic overtures and preludes, with works from Rienzi, Tristan and Isolde, Die Meistersinger of Nuremberg and Tannhäuser. The programme ends with the Paulo Gaio Lima Festival, a biennial initiative of the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra that pays tribute to cellist and teacher Paulo Gaio Lima. On 25 and 26 June, Teatro Tivoli BBVA hosts two concerts conducted by Bruno Borralhinho, dedicated to some of the most emblematic works in the cello repertoire. The festival also features international soloist Claudio Bohórquez and the winners and laureates of the Paulo Gaio Lima Prize, celebrating the musician's legacy and the talent of a new generation of performers.
