No Rest for the Wicked
Part ofMOTELX 2026 — Festival Internacional de Cinema de Terror de Lisboaabout the event
In 1862, in the Faroe Islands, Baldur lives in isolation as a fisherman and supports his mother following his father’s death. The arrival of Helge, a charismatic whaler who is stranded on the island, gives rise to a love affair that must remain hidden in a community where desire for another man is seen as a sin and a threat to the social order.
When a tragedy threatens to separate them, Baldur refuses to accept the loss. Directed by Kasper Kalle, the film combines gothic romance, vampires and religious repression in a remote and inhospitable setting, with an atmosphere that evokes *The Lighthouse*, by Robert Eggers. The story is inspired by the 1884 tale *Manor*, by Karl Heinrich Ulrichs. The festival screening lasts 103 minutes.
