Synopsis

Originating from a mapping of the poetry of the world as a manifesto that is simultaneously human and humanist, Atlas, poetic mapping proposes a meeting between the lived experience of immigration in Portugal and the poetic universe of different places in the world. Our coexistence with immigration in Portugal, in a space of geographical proximity, is represented mostly as a space of distance and unfamiliarity that we wish to reduce, bring closer. The work process with the six performers will develop in close connection with sound, gesture, movement and word. — Joana Providência / Teatro do Bolhão

Authors' biography text

Joana Providência was born in Braga in 1965. She began her dance studies with Fernanda Canossa. In 1989, she completed the course at the Higher School of Dance of the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon. Since 1995, she has been part of ACE Escola de Artes, and is part of the artistic direction of Teatro do Bolhão. In her choreographic work, she has developed a language in which she privileges the relationship between performer and choreographer. She has participated in festivals such as Mostra de Dança Portuguesa ACARTE, New Moves, Glasgow, Festival de Otoño, Spring Dance and Klapstuck, Tanzplattform, DDD — Festival Dias da Dança and Chantiers d’Europe at Théâtre de la Ville.

Teatro do Bolhão was formed in 2002 by professionals from ACE Escola de Artes. The company, based at Palácio do Bolhão, promotes an eclectic and multidisciplinary production model and maintains a synergistic relationship with ACE, integrating young professionals into a constantly renewing work team.
