The Cinema in the Courtyard cycle presents The Student of Prague (1926), by Henrik Galeen, a landmark of German Expressionism centered on Balduin, a student and fencer who, humiliated by poverty, agrees to sell his reflection to a sorcerer. The screening highlights the film’s visual intensity — through shadows, superimpositions, chiaroscuro, and subjective camera — and fits within the theme of the double, which runs through the August programme at gnration.
