Book Presentation | Ilhas Perdidas, by Dinis Carmo
about the event
The Biblioteca Pública e Arquivo Regional Luís da Silva Ribeiro hosts the presentation of *Ilhas Perdidas*, by Dinis Carmo, in a session in which the author introduces his first work of literary narrative.
Based on real events and supported by documentation from the period, the book follows the experience of a young married couple of doctors who, in the late 1970s, settle on Terceira Island to begin their professional careers. The narrative intertwines medical practice and everyday hospital life with the American presence at Base das Lajes and with significant episodes in Azorean history, such as the "Justiça da Noite" and the independence movement.
Originally from Coimbra, Dinis Carmo is an orthopedic surgeon and worked in the Azores between 1977 and 1980, an experience that provided the basis for this work.
