Anri Sala

Anri Sala is one of the most significant artists in the international art scene, known for the way he combines image, sound and architectural space in sensorial and immersive experiences. His work, which includes video, installation, sculpture and sound interventions, challenges the viewer’s perception and transforms the exhibition space into a field of dialogue between music, time and architecture.

At Serralves, Sala will occupy the Left Wing of the Museum — including the Central Gallery — with an intervention designed specifically for this context. The exhibition proposes a non-linear journey, in which emblematic works from his career dialog with more recent creations, including the series of frescoes that marked his move to Naples. Visitors are invited to experience art as continuous movement, where sound and image unfold across multiple temporalities.

Anri Sala’s presence at Serralves is of particular significance, reflecting the affinity between the artist and the Museum’s DNA — a space where art, architecture and nature intertwine organically. Despite his vast international recognition, this will be the artist’s first major exhibition in Portugal, reaffirming Serralves’ role in presenting leading figures in world contemporary art.
