Organized by the Sesimbra Maritime Museum, this gathering brings together national and international researchers to revisit the history of whaling in the Atlantic, from the 12th to the 21st centuries. Over four panels, perspectives are brought together on the historical background, the technical and organizational evolution of the activity, and several case studies from Sesimbra, Madeira, the Azores, Brazil, Cape Verde, and New England. The program ends with a roundtable dedicated to Memory and Heritage, in a dialogue between research, maritime heritage, and environmental conservation.
